9th day

And today will be my last blog for midterms!!! yeheeeyyy! Half way to goooo :))) We took our midterm exam last meeting and it was a bit confusing because i didn't expect that the number of items will increase. I got used to the 10-item exam which is given to with us by our very considerate prof! :)  After taking the exam, we watched some of the videos that was made by the class and then we immediately proceed to the editing lab. Sir Rey set up a super professional looking studio for models. Some of my classmates took the opportunity to have a photo shoot!haha. And some of them really feel the moment of like being a model. Frustrated model :)

This is my video about myself! :)

8th day

The class started with a lecture regarding video. Different terms like f/s, SD, HD was tackled. The discussion turned to be so productive. I learned many things that i don't even have an idea before. Right after the discussion we proceed at the editing lab and take videos of our self in preparation for our midterm output. The activity turned out good so far but not all of my classmates including myself was able to get the chance to take video because the time is limited. While others are in the editing lab, Sir Rey decided to have lecture and unfortunately i wasn't able to listen to the last discussion because I was waiting for my turn to take a video of myself as well.

7th Day

This was the day wherein the class brought different kinds of food because we've done the food photography. It was an amazing experience to shoot foods in a professional and more technical way instead of taking pictures in the way we're used to. I can say that we were successful in shooting those foods because I've seen a great outcomes among all the pictures that was taken by the class. The day was really fun because we was all bloated after the photo shoot.

After the food photography activity, Sir Rey discussed the technical way of creating a video. This was discussed since our midterm exam is to create a video about our self.

6th Day

I was very excited to come to class this meeting because I'm so proud and confident to submit my photo alphabet :) My mom even helped me in doing it as well as aunt. It turned out to be nice and what makes me proud is that I took all the shot using manual instead of automatic. I'm just glad that I've improved a lot.

We submitted our assignment and I'm contented with my score. After that, we proceed with the discussion regarding the white balance. Here are the steps in which we can customize the white balance: First off, Set WB to daylight, then shoot a neutral color which is white, followed by setting WB to photo, next is choose custom WB in camera settings and then take a photo, and lastly, see if WB is correct. Right after the discussion, we took different photo of the toys which Mr. Rey brought to made use of the white balance and to identify different categories of white balance in our cameras.

5th Day

In our 5th day of meeting, we had an assignment in which we have to showcase what we've done using the portrait shot. The class started as we explained our assignment in front and it was recorded as our quiz. So far so good. Different shots was showed and I can honestly say that we've improved a lot.

After the recitation, Sir Rey showed us the photo alphabet in which he made use of his creativity to come up with the letters A-Z. After some discussion and instruction, he let us go out to do the photo alphabet as well. I was really excited to do so even though that weather was not that good. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to finish the task so it turned out to be our assignment.

I won't show my portrait shot here cause I'm very disappointed with it. I think I'm not into portrait shot but I'll still give it a try but not this time.

4th day

And I'm back! this was supposed to be posted a week after my last blog, but due to some sort of delay ,I failed to do so. This meeting was the most complicated so far. Mr. Rey discussed how to make a portrait shot. he discussed three things which are the split, butterfly, loop and rembrandt and show examples afterwards. the discussion goes well and it was very well understood and absorbed. I was very excited to try it. After the discussion, we all proceed to light.he editing lab to shoot at portrait shot with the use of light but Mr. Rey first demonstrate to us how to make use the light then after that, we try it on our own.

I didn't expect that it will be hard. It took us a lot of shot before we was able to get the split, butterfly, loop and rembrandt portrait shot. My circle of friends help each other and right after we finished the task, the activity turns into a seductive photoshoot, starring my gay friends!hahaha.

3rd

Last July 02, the class showcased the homework that was assigned by our professor. Everyone explained how our photo is done. After this long activity, Mr Rey discussed the use of IOS briefly then told us to take 5 photos wherein IOS can obviously be seen. Followed by the submission of the 5 photos is the most exciting part in which we tried to do some sort of light painting. There's a model while the other person is drawing with the use of flashlight. What's unique about this class is that even there's an assignment, I, personally, is very excited and eager to do it with full enthusiasm. I am always looking forward on the next lesson that Mr. Rey is sharing with us as well as the activities that we're tasked to do so.

Here's my light painting using IOS 100, aperture  f/3.5  with the shutter speed of 3"2

2nd day

It was our 2nd meeting for visual communication and all I can say is that it was AWESOME learning! The class first started with a little bit of dialogue from Mr. Rey and afterwards, he explained the activity that we're gonna do. But before we proceed with the activity, he first discussed again the uses of shutter speed, ISO and the aperture. He gave some instructions to follow like setting our ISO only in 400. We went outside to take a photo wherein we can be able to determine the usage of the 3 light controlling object.

Mr. Rey gave us time to go outside and take some photo. I took a photo of my classmate, Sherwin while spitting water, for me to capture the water while in motion. Unfortunately, when i passed the photo to Mr. Rey he told me to make the shutter speed a little bit higher since the water seems to be a little bit blurred. Despite the comment of Mr. Rey, I'm happy the I can be able to correct and improve my mistakes :)

1st Day

It was our first meeting in our Visual Communication and I must say that we are very fortunate to have Mr. Rey Mendoza to be our instructor since he’s a very successful professional photographer. Truth be told, many aspiring photographer in our class was inspired and motivated by him. The first day was just probably started by some sort of meet and greet and afterwards he discussed some basics in photography. I must admit that the class was very interested in everything that was discussed and even those who are not that familiar and not that very much fascinated in photography seems to be very captivated on how the talk goes by.

Mr. Mendoza was very considerate since he started the lesson from scratch and basic essentials of photography. He understands that not all of us has a background knowledge in terms of this course. The first lesson was the three things that controls light, namely, shutter speed, exposure and the IOS. To be honest, even if I have my own DSLR I’m still a bit unfamiliar with these three things. I learned that their usage is all for light but it just differs on the way it is controlled. Our instructor quoted Henry Besson that our first 10,000 photos are our worst and it only means that after having 10,000 shots then we’ll probably be a good photographer.

After our discussion I reflected something about Mr. Rey’s question regarding what makes a good photograph. Wrapping things up, I can definitely say that a good and knowledgeable photographer is what makes a good photograph.
